Trainer Gerald Ryan is yet to confirm a start in the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 10 for last Saturday’s Canterbury winner Tango Rain.

While winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy thinks that Tango Rain will run 1400m, Ryan is not so sure and will see how the Manhattan Rain colt progresses in the lead up races to the Golden Rose Stakes.
“There is still improvement to come in this horse,’’ McEvoy told Ryan.
“It remains to be seen what trip he does enjoy but he was strong late today.
“He began so well, I rode him for speed and he responded but I feel he can get further and I wouldn’t rule him out running 1400m, either.’’
Ryan has two options for Tango Rain’s next start with the Rosehill trainer thinking either the Listed $100,000 The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 6 or the Group 3 $150,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a week later.
“There are two options — The Rosebud at Randwick in two weeks or the San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on August 13,’’ Ryan said.
“But about the Golden Rose; I’m not sure, I’ve got a question mark about him, the way he’s built and there’s plenty of other races you can go to.”
Tango Rain made it two wins from two races when McEvoy took the colt straight to the front to lead all of the way to take out the $85,000 Martin King Two Year Old Handicap (1200m) which followed his debut win in a two year old Maiden over 1100m at Canterbury on June 22.
“He is a very smart colt, does everything right in his races and this win was the same as his first start — just three classes better,’’ Ryan said.
“There were some nice young horses in this field and he was able to beat them quite convincingly.
“I don’t think he has to lead, I’m sure he would settle if ridden with cover, but he does have the ability to sustain is speed and that makes him hard to run down.’’
Tango Rain is currently listed at $31 in the early market order for the Golden Rose Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Golden Slipper winner Capiltalist heads the betting at $5 just ahead of the David Vandyke’s Inglis Sires winner Yankee Rose at $6.50 and the unbeaten Snitzel colt Russian Revolution at $11.
