Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan is hoping to secure a third Golden Slipper runner with two possible last minute candidates trying to qualify at Rosehill tomorrow.

Ryan has already gained a start with Amorino and Snitzerland in the Group 1 $3.5m AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill next week and has one last chance to qualify fillies Cavalry Rose or Flying Snitzel who are both going around in the Group 2 $175,000 Mondial Pink Diamond Magic Night Stakes(1200m).
Cavalry Rose is currently number twenty-eight in order of entry for the Slipper even though she has almost $250,000 in prize money next to her name.
But the majority of her prize money was won in the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) at Rosehill on January 21 and because it is a sales related race, money won doesn’t count towards a Golden Slipper berth.
Ryan sent the Charge Forward filly to Canberra for the Listed $250,000 Kamberra Wine Company Black Opal Stakes (1200m) on March 11 and said her run might appear better than the fourth behind Epaulette suggests.
“Perhaps I might be underrating this filly,” Ryan said.
“The form around her is quite good. It was a very biased track at Canberra that day and she was wide and had to come outside the best part of the ground.”
“She looked as if she was going to win the race at the top of the straight and was run down about the 300-metre mark and then just whacked away the last little bit.”
“I reckon if she was given an easier run and had drawn a better barrier then she would have been on the fence in behind the leaders and I think she would have been very, very competitive.”
Ryan said that Cavalry Rose had come through the Canberra run on the wet track okay and would more than likely line up in the Slipper if she can grab some more prize money.
“If she did qualify it would probably be hard not to go though,” he said.
In form jockey Jim Cassidy will take over from Corey Brown who has hopped on the Allan Denham trained filly Ichihara who is unbeaten from two starts.
Ryan is also looking for an improved performance from stable mate Flying Snitzel but said she would really have to impress to secure a run in the Slipper.
“Whether we go to the Golden Slipper or not, she would have to win pretty impressively on Saturday,” Ryan said.
“She’s a lot better on top of the ground and I just hope the rain stays away to give us a guide where we are going with her.”
The Snitzel filly has a debut win in a Canterbury two year old Maiden over 1200m back in December and resumed from a spell for a fifth to Jade Marauder in the Group 3 $125,000 Les Johnson Memorial Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 17 on a slow track.
Magic Night favourite She’s A Fox ($3.60) was an impressive first up winner in a 1100m Canterbury two year old Maiden and the Anthony Cummings filly is certain to have taken some improvement from that run.
Peter Robl will replace leading rider Hugh Bowman who has elected to ride Flying Snitzel ($16) for Ryan.
Queensland trained filly Doubtfilly is the second elect at $7.50 with Cavalry Rose at ($9).
