The Michael Freedman-trained filly Apocalyptic has emerged as a top contender for the Group 1 Flight Stakes following the release of nominations for the $750,000 Randwick feature.

The unbeaten filly is a standout among the 59 early entries and is poised to be a major force in the final leg of the Princess Series on October 4.

Apocalyptic, a lightly-raced daughter of Extreme Choice, has quickly captured the attention of the racing world. She went from being a maiden to a Group 2 winner in just her second career start, a victory that saw her defeat a more seasoned field in the Furious Stakes.

She currently sits on the second line of all-in 2025 Flight Stakes betting at $4.50 through Ladbrokes.

The favourite, however, is the Bjorn Baker-trained Within The Law ($4.20). The filly threw her rider in the Golden Slipper as a juvenile but bounced back with an impressive second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes. She has had two runs this spring, including a fifth with excuses in the Furious Stakes, and is expected to be a major threat over the mile.

Other top contenders include Gary Portelli‘s consistent mare Queen Of Clubs ($7), who ran third in the Silver Shadow, and the consistent Tupakara ($8), who despite being a maiden, has shown immense promise with a number of top-three finishes in tough company, including a third in the Champagne Stakes and a second in the Furious Stakes.

A major market mover is the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Alpha Sofie ($13), who is now on a three-race winning streak after a dominant two-length win in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes.

The stable also has two other promising fillies in their four-horse contingent, including the undefeated Vivid Sun.

Eleven-time winning trainer Gai Waterhouse has two nominees in the mix, as she chases a record-extending twelfth win in the famous Randwick mile.

Her two entries, who she trains in partnership with Adrian Bott, are outsiders but she has a history of pulling off a big win in the race.

Last year’s winning trainer Chris Waller has seven entries, including his shortest-priced runner Karinska ($15), as he chases back-to-back victories.

Other notable entries include Ciaron Maher‘s Atlantic Jewel runner-up Custom and the Golden Slipper champion Marhoona.
