Rising Romance is currently available at 2015 Zipping Classic odds of $2.70 and she is set to start the Group 2 event at Sandown this afternoon.
Rising Romance opened at a quote of $3.50 when the Zipping Classic field was released earlier in the week, but her odds shortened significantly following the scratching of Dandino yesterday afternoon.
The Ekraar mare has had mixed form since she returned to the races with a credible sixth place finish in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29, but she returned to her best form with a close second behind Gailo Chop in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 31.
Co-trainer Tom Dabernig believes that Rising Romance was unlucky not to win the Mackinnon Stakes, but he is confident that she can record her maiden win for Lindsay Park in the Zipping Classic this afternoon.
“Her run in the Caulfield Cup she was in season and then in the Mackinnon, it was excellent,” Dabernig said.
“I thought that three times down the straight we were going to win, but Gailo Chop was on that better ground hard up against the fence.
“We can’t take anything away from the winner, but we just couldn’t quite get past him on the day.
“Our mare is going to be right in it and we couldn’t be any happier with her.”
While Rising Romance is currently on top of the 2015 Zipping Classic betting market with Ladbrokes, the market mover has been Darren Weir-trained Tall Ship, who is now on the second line of betting at a quote of $3.70.
Tall Ship returned to the races with an eighth place finish in the Hockingstuart Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29 and he produced credible efforts in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on October 4, the Listed Seymour Cup (1600m) on October 18 and the Listed James Boag’s Symphony Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, but he finally gets out to his pet trip in the Zipping Classic.
Who Shot Thebarman is on the third line of betting at a quote of $3.80 following his 11th place finish in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3 and he has the chance to record his first race win since he took out the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) over 12 months ago.
The only other horse that is available at single figure Zipping Classic odds is Kirramosa, who is priced at $6.50 to return to winning for.
Kirramosa has not recorded a race win since she took out the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 7, but she has performed well without winning this preparation and she finished a more than credible third behind The Offer in the Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) on October 28.
The 2015 Zipping Classic betting market is rounded out by Sertorius ($15), Don Doremo ($26) and Do You Remember ($41).
