Promising Paul Messara-trained galloper Rekindled Alliance has died from a heart attack following a routine track gallop this morning.
Messara confirmed on twitter the son of Redoute’s Choice had his life cut short ahead of a spring campaign that was likely to feature multiple stakes races.
“Stable star Rekindled Alliance passed away this morning. He had a heart attack shortly after finishing his work. The stable is devastated,” Messara tweeted.
The four-year-old entire produced just one win from 10 starts but was a consistent performer throughout his short career.
Rekindled Alliance won on debut in August last year and finished runner-up in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle in just his third career start.
He returned in the autumn to deliver some promising performances in a six-start campaign that was highlighted by runner-up finishes in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes and the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes.
Rekindled Alliance also finished fifth in the Australian Derby and third in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate, collecting more than $190,000 in prizemoney.
