The 2017 Show County Quality is a Group 3 sprinting event held at Royal Randwick Racecourse during August each year.
Run under Quality conditions, the Show County Quality field is open to entrants aged three years and older. Paying a grand total of $150,000 prize money, the Show County Quality is contested over 1200m and is one of five black-type sprint events held on the day.
The Show County Quality runs on Warwick Stakes Day. It shares the race program with Group 2 events the Warwick Stakes (1400m) and Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), as well as Group 3 events the Toy Show Quality (1300m) and Up and Coming Stakes (1300m).
Previously a listed event since its inception in 1993, the Show County Quality was upgraded to Group 3 in 2013. The upgrade reflects the race’s growing reputation as a springboard for successful sprinters to kick off their spring campaigns.
Those horses that contest the Show County Quality often come via other sprint events held earlier in Sydney. Those horses who experience success in the Show County Quality often go on to compete in events such as the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m).
Named after sprinter Show County (who saw much success during their two- and three-year-old campaigns), the Show County Quality has a strong reputation for defining the strength of many famous sprinters. Notable Show County Quality winners include Might And Power (1997), Presently (2002), Moment Of Change (2012) and Rebel Dane (2013).
