The 2019 Reisling Stakes is a Group 2 contest raced annually late in March during the Sydney autumn racing carnival. Also known as the Reisling Slipper Trial, the event is for two year old fillies over a trip of 1200m at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse. The conditions of the race are set weights with prize money of $300,000.
As the name suggests the Reisling Slipper Trial is a preliminary event leading into the Group 1 Golden Slipper. The winner of this event is exempt from the ballot for the Golden Slipper meaning there’s always huge interest in the Reisling Stakes.
Making the race even more popular is its placement on the same card as two of Sydney’s biggest races. The Group 1 Coolmore Stud Classic and Group 1 Ranvet Stakes both headline a huge day at Rosehill Gardens.
The very best fillies are always on show in the Reisling Stakes and they are usually well and truly at the top of their game.
Many will come through races like the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes or the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes before getting here.
The last horse to claim the Reisling Stakes / Golden Slipper double was Polar Success back in 2003.
In 2011 Elite Fall won this race before storming home late in the Golden Slipper to cross in third.
Previous winners include Bold Promise in 1991, Ginzano in 1995, Belle Du Jour in 2000, Alinghi in 2004 and More Joyous in 2009.
