The 2017 Lord Reims Stakes is a Group 3 race that takes place at Morphettville racecourse in March each year.
Run over a distance of 2,600 metres, the Lord Reims Stakes is held as part of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.
The Lord Reims Stakes is run under set-weight plus penalty conditions and is worth a total of $120,000 in prize money. The race is the official lead up race to the Group 2 Adelaide Cup.
The Lord Reims Stakes was first held in 1889 when it was won by a horse named Britannia. The race was initially known as the West End Draught Stakes and has since been known as many different names including West End Super Stakes, Eagle Blue Stakes, Carlton Draught Stakes and Tooheys New Stakes.
Throughout the years, the Lord Reims Stakes has been held over a variety of different distances. The race began over 12 furlongs until 1973 when it was altered to 2,400 metres. The race then fluctuated in distance until 2004 when it became today’s 2,600 metre race.
The Lord Reims Stakes was not held from 1942 to 1944 due to the Second World War.
