The 2017 Kingston Town Stakes is a Group 3 race that is held each September at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney. The race is worth total prize money of $125,000 and is run over a stayer’s distance of 2,000 metres.
Run under quality handicap conditions, the Kingston Town Stakes is part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and is open to horses aged three-years-old and upwards. The race is run on the same day as the Group 2 Theo Mark Stakes and the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes.
The first Kingston Town Stakes was run in 1988 when it was won by Kruthoffer. Horses that run in the Kingston Town Stakes often target the race as part of an extensive spring campaign. At 2000m, the Kingston Town Stakes is ideal for horses wishing to step up to longer events.
Horses that perform well in the Kingston Town Stakes often go on to run in races such as the Group 2 Colin Stephen Quality, Group 1 The Metropolitan and Group 1 Caulfield Cup.
