The 2019 Hobartville Stakes is a Group 2 contest raced annually at Rosehill Racecourse in the New South Wales capital of Sydney.
The race is scheduled in March during the start of the Sydney autumn racing carnival and signals the arrival of top line racing action.
The Hobartville Stakes itself is a three year old event worth $200,000 in prize money to the winners. They are given set weights for the race and compete across a trip of 1400m.
The Hobartville Stakes has managed to build up quite a bit of history with origins all the way back to 1925 when it was run over seven furlongs.
In 1973 it moved to the distance it is today and shortly after in 1979 it was promoted to Group 2 level.
There have been a string of top class horses to pass through the Hobartville Stakes as shown on the winners.
Shaftesbury Avenue won it in 1990 with Nothin’ Leica Dane getting up in 1996 and Lonhro in 2002.
Since then it’s been won by Racing To Win in 2006 and Ilovethiscity in 2011.
