The 2018 Champagne Classic is held during May every year at Doomben Racecourse just outside the Brisbane CBD. The Group 2 event is for two-year-olds with set weight over a 1200m sprint.
The Champagne Classic is worth $175,000 and held on BTC Cup Day where the program is filled with four exciting Group races. It is the first two-year-old Group race during the Doomben Winter Carnival and always has a full contingent of anxious local trainers in attendance.
Many horses will go from the Champagne Classic to the Group 2 Sires Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm in two weeks time.
Pressday’s 2010 Winter Carnival campaign was one of the most successful on record claiming the Champagne Classic / Sires produce Stakes double and then saluting in the Group 1 TJ Smith as well.
Virage De Fortune didn’t quite manage three but did also claim the Champagne Classic / Sires Produce Stakes double back in 2005.
In 2009 Spot On Target and Linky Dink finished eighth and ninth in the Champagne Classic before coming from nowhere in The TJ Smith to run a Linky Dink / Spot On Target quinella.
