One of the feature races held every year at Belmont Racecourse in Perth is the Group 3 2015 Belmont Sprint. An open handicap race, the Belmont Sprint is contested over a 1400m trip and worth $125,000 in prize money.
The race follows on perfectly from the Group 3 Roma Cup which is hosted on the same track under the exact same conditions except over 1200m instead of 1400m.
It’s a race typically for local horses and those from further afield in Western Australia.
In the last decade three horses have managed the Roma Cup / Belmont sprint double including Tribula in 2003, Modem in 2004 and Grand Nirvana in 2011.
Grand Nirvana has in fact won this race twice with back to back victories in 2010 and 2011.
Other winners of the Belmont Sprint include Who Did It in 2005, Marasco in 2008 and Universal Ruler in 2009.
