The 2019 Alister Clark Stakes is a Group 2 race that takes place at Moonee Valley Racecourse in March each year. Run over a distance of 2,040 metres, the Alister Clark Stakes is run as part of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. The Alister Clark Stakes is run under set weight plus penalty conditions and is worth $220,000 in prize money. The race is open to three-year-old colts and geldings only.
The Alister Clark Stakes was first run in 1939 when it was won by a horse named Amiable. The race was originally run as a Principal race, but was upgraded to a Group 2 in 1979. The Alister Clark Stakes was traditionally run over 1,600 metres, however, this was altered to 2,000 metres in 1948. The race alternated between 1,600, 2,000 and 2,040 metres throughout the years until it was changed to today’s distance of 2,040 metres in 2011.
