Muswellbrook Racecourse is a picturesque country circuit located in the northern reaches of the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. It’s a crucial stop on the New South Wales racing calendar and a real racing fostering ground for talent of both the human and equine variety.
Muswellbrook Racecourse prides itself on offering a facility of the highest order and they are constantly striving to be recognised as not only the best country track in their state, but the best country track anywhere in the country.
The people behind this effort are the members of the Muswellbrook Race Club who put in a mountain of hours to keep their club and their grounds in pristine order.
The racecourse has all the creature comforts you’d expect of even a metropolitan track including bars, dining areas, betting facilities and undercover viewing platforms.
The circuit is grass covered and is a good size stretching for a full 2010m and raced in the clockwise direction.
There is a sprint of 400m up the final straight with starts from the 1000m out to the 1750m with races also having been run from 2300m.
There’s no doubting what the feature event is at Muswellbrook Racecourse with the club packing out every year on the first Tuesday of November.
Not only are they there to watch the Melbourne Cup, at the same time they also celebrate the running of their own Muswellbrook Gold Cup over 1280m.
It’s the show piece event of the regions ‘Carnival Of Cups’ and also features Denman Cup Race Day, Aberdeen Cup Race Day and Ladies Day in the weeks beforehand.
The carnival is just as much about celebrating horse racing as it is about celebrating the entire community with a range of non-equine activities also supported by the Muswellbrook Race Club over that period.
