Buffering and Woorim complete an exhibition gallop at Doomben ahead of the Autumn Carnival

Queensland trainers are planning a massive assault on the riches of the Victorian Autumn Racing Carnival.

Sunshine Coast trainer Jason McLachlan will send off his 2 stable stars, Facile Tigre and Phelan Ready at the end of the week.

“I’ve nominated them for the three sprints (Lightning Stakes, Newmarket Handicap & Oakleigh Plate) but I’m not sure which races they will run in,” McLachlan said.

Temple Of Boom, from the Toowoomba stable of Tony Gollan, will also be heading off this week. Gollan decided to send his charge early after missing barrier trials due to the wet weather. Temple Of Boom will run in the G1 Lightning Stakes over 1000 metres before attempting the 1200 metre Newmarket Handicap.

Liam Birchley has marked the Light Fingers Stakes (Feb 11) for his filly Emmalene as her main mission but will wait to see how she performs before committing her to run in the Surround Stakes over 1400 metres the following month.

Meanwhile Queensland’s leading trainer Robert Heathcote is trying to put the finishing touch to his pair of sprinting stars Buffering and Woorim but is being plagued by the recent weather conditions.

Buffering and Woorim are booked to head off to Melbourne on February 14.

The duo who worked together on the 18th January (see photo) in a special gallop over 800 metres at Doomben, but have since missed several hit outs due to cancellations of race meetings where they were to have featured in special gallops in between races. They are being aimed at the Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington in March.

Buffering will have his first hit out in the G1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington on February 18 while Woorim will resume in the G1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield a week later.

Buffering will stay in Melbourne after the Newmarket for the G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 23 while Woorim will head to Sydney for the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill and Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

Buffering will certainly appreciate not having to contest with Black Caviar this year after finishing third to her and Hay List in last year’s BTC Cup at Doomben and then running 2nd to the world champion in the Patinack Farm Classic last November.
