QLD Derby To See Why Shez Sinsational

Shez Sinsational was well and truly overshadowed by her compatriot Scarlett Lady in the Queensland Oaks but her run was certainly worth noting.

She was caught up in traffic for most of the trip before finding a run quite late in the piece.

Once she was clear though she ran on well and her third place finish was solid considering she didn’t have the easiest of races.

As a result of that connections of Shez Sinsational have elected to accept her for the Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm this weekend where she’ll take on the boys.

“We had a meeting last night the syndicate owners and we’ll roll the dice,” trainer Alan Sharrock said.

He’s well aware of the task at hand and concedes she’s probably need to have improved to be a genuine threat.

“I hope there is another turn in my filly and we might get the luck,” he said.

He’s helped by the fact regular rider Opie Bosson will make the trip back across the Tasman and says he will be able to cut down to 54kgs.

“He’s more than happy to ride her at that weight and he’s never failed to ride her, he’s ridden at all her starts in her career,” Sharrock said.

While he was content with her run in the Queensland Oaks he was far from overawed and knows there’s a few areas she’ll need to improve on.

“She finished the race off good but we thought she pinched slightly and she did have a bit of a blow,” he said.

One area in which they have no concerns is the one week turnaround saying that she can not only handle it, if anything she relishes it.

“I’ve only backed her up after seven days in New Zealand once and she won by six lengths,” he said.

Shez Sinsational will join Heidilicious as the only two fillies in the field and both of them performed very well in the barrier draw.

Shez Sinsational grabbed gate seven while Heidiclicious will have her barrier manners thoroughly tested from gate three.

With both Scarlett Lady and Beccera not accepting from the Oaks Shez Sinsational becomes the leading filly still in action and Sharrock is buoyed by the fact the girls seem to have had the wood over the boys for much of the carnival so far.
