The 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes field has been released and a number of talented mares are set to contest the Group 1 event at Morphettville this Saturday.
Vain Queen performed strongly without winning at the highest level of racing during the 2015 Melbourne Festival Of Racing and may never have a better opportunity to record a maiden win at Group 1 level.
The Artie Schiller mare returned to racing with an unlucky fourth place finish in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 28 and she looked like the winner in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 27 before she was run down by Lucky Hussler in the final stages of the race.
Miracles Of Life is another mare that has performed well without winning at Group 1 level this preparation and she will return to the city where she made her name as a two-year-old for the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes.
The Not A Single Doubt mare started her autumn campaign with a dominant victory in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on March 7 and she hit the line strongly to finish third behind Sweet Idea in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.
Miracles Of Life has been freshened-up for the Robert Sangster Stakes and she impressed co-trainer Paul Snowden with her performance in a barrier trial at Royal Randwick on April 13.
Another Group 1 winner that has been included in the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes field is Platelet, who has a simply outstanding record in the $400,000 event.
Platelet upset Snitzerland to win the 2013 Robert Sangster Stakes and she ran home strongly to finish second behind Driefontein in the race last year, but she will need to improve on her effort in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 18 to be any chance.
Perth-based sprinter Magnifisio is also set to back-up from the Irwin Stakes in the Robert Sangster Stakes and will have the chance to record a second win at Group 1 level.
Magnifisio lived up to her potential when she took out the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) during the 2014 Perth Summer Racing Carnival and trainer Jim Miller is confident that she will take plenty of benefit from her first-up run in the Irwin Stakes.
The two biggest losers from the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes barrier draw that was conducted this morning were Avoid Lightning and Politeness and they will both need plenty of luck in running to record a maiden Group 1 win.
Avoid Lightning failed to fire in The Galaxy, but she returned to her best form to take out the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 11 and will prove tough to beat on a wet track, while Politeness bounced back from a number of setbacks to score a fast-finishing victory in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18.
There is plenty of depth to the Robert Sangster Stakes field and the likes of Gregers (barrier eight), Tycoon Tara (barrier 11), Runway Star (barrier three), I Love It (barrier two), Text’N Hurley (barrier 12), Miss Steele (barrier 17), Scarlet Billows (barrier 15), Fine Approach (barrier nine), Natural Disaster (barrier five), Sabatini (barrier ten) and Wawail (barrier six) have also been included in the entries for the $400,000 event.
