Superstar colt Pierro will stand for a monster fee of $77,000 in his first season at Coolmore Stud.

The international breeding operation bought the five-time Group 1 winner in a deal worth a rumoured $35 million last week but only announced his service fee today.

“Champion Pierro to stand at $77,000 for the 2013 Australian Season,” the official Coolmore twitter account said.

The fee is $11,000 more than that of fellow Coolmore stallion So You Think who won 10 Group 1 races including back-to-back Cox Plates.

It is also $11,000 more than Vinery Stud have listed for All Too Hard who is expected to be retired after a likely Royal Ascot trip in June.

All Too Hard famously ended Pierro’s unbeaten streak when storming down the outside to claim an upset Caulfield Guineas win in October.

Pierro won 11 of 14 starts and never finished worse than third, collecting more than $4.5 million in prizemoney.

Undoubtedly the highlight was winning the two-year-old triple crown but he also returned as a three-year-old this autumn to star against the older horses.

The son of Lonhro won the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes and George Ryder Stakes before finishing a gallant second when carrying 57kg in his final race in the Doncaster Mile.

Coolmore Australia’s General Manager Michael Kirwan said the organisation was “thrilled” to have obtained Pierro last week.

“We’ve followed Pierro’s career very closely ever since he made his debut and we’re thrilled that he is joining what is already an exceptional line up of stallions here at Coolmore Australia,” Kirwan said.
