Payne Places Master Of Design In Sir Rupert Clarke Contention

Master Of Design

Master Of Design is at his best for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes according to trainer David Payne

Trainer David Payne is confident that he has Master Of Design at his best for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakesin Melbourne this Saturday.

Master Of Design won his last start in the Group 2 Sebring Sprint ahead of Torio’s Quest and Fast Clip at Moonee Valley.

His trainer was pleased with how he pulled up following his winning run.

“He came through his last run,” Payne said.

“That was the best he came through.”

Payne will be giving jockey Damien Oliver instructions to let Master Of Design settle just better than midfield in this weekend’s race.

“He is a little bit better behind the horses so on Saturday we’d like a lead,” Payne said.

“I’d like three or four to lead him.”

The trainer believes he can outsprint the likes of backmarkers Woorim and Smart Missile in the $350,000 Sir Rupert Clarke.

“He’s never been better, I think it’s the best I’ve had him, he needs a bit of luck that’s all,” he said.

Master Of Design was purchased from the 2007 Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $2.1 million and has currently won just shy of $290,000 in prize money.

The Redoute’s Choice entire has won six of his 12 starts during his lightly raced career.
