Peter Moody-trained Pasadena Girl upstaged a number of well-bred juveniles to record an upset win in the 2015 Talindert Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Pasadena Girl started the 2015 Talindert Stakes at lengthy odds of $61, but she worked home over the top of Stay With Me and Take Pride to make a winning start to her racing career.
The daughter of Savabeel was purchased for just $25,000 at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and the two-year-old did not trial strongly over 800 metres at Cranbourne on February 9, but Moody told the media after the race that he was expecting the two-year-old to perform well in the Talindert Stakes.
“Last thing I said to Vlad when I legged him up was that I think this is a really good filly,” Moody said.
“She has done everything above what she should be doing at this point in her career, she is immature Savabeel filly, but she has always shown some talent at home.
“I was just very taken with her from day one, she broke in well and we didn’t spend a lot of money.”
Pasadena Girl was not included in the entries for races like the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) and is likely to head to the spelling paddock before returning to the races as a more developed three-year-old.
“Gut feel is that she will go to the paddock because I really believe that she shouldn’t of been here today by pedigree or type.
“We will see how she pulls up, but if she did happen to pull through it maybe the Sires in three weeks over seven furlongs.
David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Stay With Me was very well-backed in the lead-up to the Talindert Stakes after she ran a sizzling 47.31 seconds in a 800 metre jump out at Flemington on February 6.
Stay With Me loomed on the outside at the 250 metre mark and she looked as though she was going to finish over the top of her rivals in the final stages of the race, but she took a while to get to Take Pride, while Pasadena Girl was too strong late.
Ciaron Maher-trained Jameka was another filly that was well-supported in the lead-up to the Talindert Stakes, but she looked under pressure a long way from home and appears unlikely to press on to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield next weekend after finishing no better than fourth.
