O’Shea Chases Lucrative Wagga Wagga Bonus

Prominent Sydney trainer John O’Shea will take his horse Hendricus to Wagga Wagga in the hope of securing a lucrative $50,000 bonus.

The two-year-old Hendricus will take part in the $12,000 Inglis Bonus 2YO Handicap (1200m), which offers an extra $50,000 for juveniles purchased at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sales.

O’Shea believes that the bonus prize money is as good a reason as ever to take his horse to Wagga Wagga.

“It’s a nice option for the horse, a trip away and the chance of a $50,000 bonus,” O’Shea said.

“That’s a good reason to go down there (Wagga Wagga).

“It looks a race within his scope.”

The young colt finished a respectable second to Invest at Canterbury Racecourse in his debut run on April 20, 2011.

“It was a very good run,” O’Shea said.

“He’s just ticked over since then. I’m happy with him.”

O’Shea is confident that Hendricus has the breeding necessary to produce winning performances.

“He comes from a very good French family,” O’Shea said.

“I think he’ll eventually run a strong mile.”

Hendricus will have to out-class the current favourite in the race, Jackpot Queen, who won her last start over 1,000 metres.

“The top one (Jackpot Queen) has to get a strong 1200 metres,” O’Shea said.

“I know my bloke will.”
