Beaded has drawn and ideal barrier (3) for the Tattersalls Tiara

Peter Snowden’s son Paul tends to look after the stables interstate team when they travel to carnivals Peter himself can’t attend fulltime.

That was the case in Adelaide earlier in the year and it’s the case again during the Brisbane winter carnival.

It’s a good position to be in given the strength of the Darley operation and he’s had no shortage of winners under his care.

Like a lot in the team though none give him more joy than the tenacious little mare Beaded.

She got her maiden Group 1 in the Doomben 10,000 and many consider her a shoe in to grab a second in Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.

Snowden says that the drawing gate three has boosted their already bulging chances.

“We’ve drawn an ally for about the first time in about four starts so we’re confident we can measure up again,” he said.

There are no issues that she might be tiring at the end of a long preparation, in fact Snowden has ruled out the possibility that she could still improve.

“I still think she’s on the way up towards this race on Saturday,” he said.

In terms of race strategy it’ll be a case of more of the same, the barrier allowing Beaded to pull up a spot in the perfect position.

“It’s probably going to be a similar type of race to the 10,000,” he said.

“She can take up a spot or be ridden quiet, there’s a lot of versatility there.”

The stable takes an incredibly amount of joy in seeing her do well and it’s not hard to see why when you consider her worst ever result in 22 career starts was a fourth in last year’s Stradbroke Handicap, every other run she’s finished din the money.

“Her record speaks for herself, there wouldn’t be too many in Australia with a record like hers,” Snowden said.

While Beaded is always one of the most relaxed and focussed horses on track, he says she can still have her moments.

“She can be a little temperamental but at the moment she’s in a bright place,” he said.

She was put through her final paces before the Tattersall’s Tiara (Winter Stakes) this morning but it was just a case of keeping her ticking over rather than anything strenuous.

“She had her last hit out this morning, didn’t have to do too much,” he said.

“If you’re trying to get them fit know you’re in a bit of trouble.”

Beaded isn’t the only runner in action at Eagle Farm tomorrow with both Pinwheel and Abstract touted as winning chances.

“He looks a touch better than them on paper,” Snowden said of Pinwheel who faces a showdown over 1200m with Buffering.

He’s equally as excited about the chances of Abstract.

“Winkers on her for the first time on Saturday,” he said.

“She’s trained on really well, probably thrived and come on the most since we’ve been up here.”
