So You Think’s half brother Now You Know scored his second win at Sandown today but he has a long way to go to catch up to his big brother.

Trainer Danny O’Brien thinks Now You Know can make the necessary improvement to perform well in higher grade after a gutsy win in the Premier Signs Handicap (1400m) at Sportingbet Park Sandown.

Today’s win was Now You Know’s second from seven starts, hardly any comparison with So You Think who had won a Cox Plate, Memsie Stakes and Gloaming Stakes at that stage of his career and went on to win eight Group One races in three countries and $6.6 million in prizemoney including a second Cox Plate.

The three year old’s other win was in a 1600m Maiden at Sale on October 23 last year.

By Elusive City, Now You Know was a $260,000 yearling purchased in Zealand after So You Think had won the first of his two Cox Plates and with today’s winning cheque he takes his earnings to almost $35,000.

“He (Now You Know) was a very nice yearling. So You Think probably wasn’t as forward as him as a yearling,” O’Brien said.

“This horse isn’t by High Chaparral but we think he’s a stakes-class horse in the making.”

“He is always going to live in the shadow of So You Think but he’s a nice horse in his own right,” O’Brien, said.

“He’s been a lot slower to develop but he’s been on a good path.”

Jockey Craig Williams took Now You Know to the front and rated him at a good tempo before kicking clear at the 400m and had enough left to hold on in a tight photo over the fast finishing Shanghai Warrior.

“Craig was always going to be aggressive on him today and they had to chase him down as he’s probably looking for a mile and a quarter (2000m),” O’Brien said

O’Brien was happy the way Now You Know settled for Williams in front and the way he lengthened stride in the straight when he let him down.
