Andrew Noblet is happy with the condition of Old Trieste and remains hopeful that the promising colt is capable of delivering him the biggest win of his training career to date in the 2015 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Old Trieste made his racing debut with a second place finish behind the talented Prompt Return in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington on November 8 and was far from disgraced when fourth in both the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat on November 22 and the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on December 27.
Noblet told Racing Ahead this morning that he was satisfied with the performance of Old Trieste in the BJ McLachlan Stakes, but he said the Hinchinbrook colt did not relish the wet Gold Coast track and he is confident that the two-year-old can produce a better effort on what he hopes is a drier track in the Magic Millions Classic this weekend.
“He has been honest in every run that he has had and in his last run at the Gold Coast the track conditions probably didn’t suit him that great,” Noblet said.
“Hopefully this rain holds off for the rest of the week and we get a bit better track.
“We really wanted to get him up here early and give him a look at the track.
“He had a run there the other day, he acquitted himself well and got around there ok, but there was a heap of rain the night before and during the day.”
Old Trieste remained in Queensland following his BJ McLachlan Stakes run and Noblet was on hand to watch the two-year-old in his final serious piece of work at Doomben this morning.
Noblet said that he was impressed with what he saw from his star juvenile and is more than happy with where he has the colt ahead of the Magic Millions Classic.
“He is in terrific order,” Noblet said.
“I am just getting back from Brisbane now from watching him work.
“He worked at Doomben on a rain affected track, but he worked really good, really strong and he came through the work really well.”
Old Trieste is currently rated one of the outsiders in the 2015 Magic Millions Classic field and is currently available at Magic Millions Classic odds of $51.
