Co-trainer Paul Snowden is confident that Capitalist has taken no harm from the minor temperature that ruled him out of a barrier trial last weekend and he could not be happier with the star two-year-old ahead of the 2016 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Capitalist confirmed his status as the dominant Magic Millions Classic favourite when he recorded an effortless victory in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic (1100m) on December 17, but punters that took the short price available for the son of Written Tycoon were alarmed when Team Snowden elected not to run the colt in a barrier trial as scheduled last week.
The Snowden camp were quick to hose down suggestions there was anything wrong with Capitalist and Paul Snowden informed punters this morning that the Magic Millions Classic favourite would go into the race in outstanding condition following two strong gallops on Friday and this morning.
“He was always going to do a little bit of work either yesterday or today and we did it today, which will carry him on to the rest of the week,” Snowden told Sky Racing HQ.
“He doesn’t have to do anymore now and he is ready to go.
“I can honestly say to the punters out there with great confidence that the horse is in A-1 condition and will run extremely well on Saturday.”
Capitalist was one of the big winners of the 2016 Magic Millions Classic barrier draw that was released this morning and his price shortened again after being allocated barrier two.
The undefeated colt has sat just behind the speed in both the Breeders Plate and the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes and Snowden believes that jockey Blake Shinn will employ similar tactics in the Magic Millions Classic.
“I am pretty happy with barrier two and hopefully it can do us justice on the day,” Snowden said.
“He has always been in a position where he is stalking a good speed and we all know how quick they will go in the Magic Millions – they always do and there is never a slowly run Magic Millions.
“I haven’t had the chance to get my head around all the other chances in the race and where all that speed lies, but you can just imagine him fourth or fifth having a nice run.”
Capitalist is currently available at 2016 Magic Millions Classic odds of $1.75 with Ladbrokes and he is a dominant favourite from Niccolance ($10), Zelady’s Night Out ($10) and Nikitas ($11).
