Mr Favulous Returns To Winning Form In The Weetwood Handicap

Consistent sprinter Mr Favulous produced tough sprinting effort to return to winning form in the 2015 Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba this afternoon.

Jockey Jeff Lloyd elected to ride Mr Favulous aggressively in the early stages of The Weetwood Handicap and the Falvelon gelding was forced to sit on a hot pace in the first half of the race, while the Tony Gollan-trained duo of Whiskey Allround and The Storeman received a lovely run in transit.

Whiskey Allround looked as though he was going to prove too strong for his rivals in the final stages of the race, but the Weetwood Handicap favourite was one of the first horses beaten and Mr Favulous was able to fight back to record his first race win since he took out the R & F Steel Buildings Handicap (1200m) at Toowoomba on May 10 last year, while Pillar Of Creation and Choice Bro both hit the line strongly to round out a lucrative trifecta.

Mr Favulous had developed a reputation as non-winner in the past 12 months after he produced a string of credible efforts without winning and from June 9 to August 23 he finished second in six straight starts in Queensland including the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on April 5.

The six-year-old was given a rare break in the spelling paddock after he finished fifth in the Novotel Brisbane Airpoint Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on September and he returned to racing with a typically gallant second in the Century 21 Coastal Handicap (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast on January 26.

Mr Favulous produced an uncharacteristically poor performance in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on April 18, but he showed a strong will to win to find the line strongly in the final stages of the Weetwood Handicap.

Pillar Of Creation is another galloper that has gone a long time without recording a race win, but he produced his best performance this preparation after he started his campaign in Queensland with a fourth place finish in the Carlton Mid Plate (1350m) at Doomben on February 28 and the Matthew Dunn Racing Handicap (1400m) at the Gold Coast on March 14.

Choice Bro returned to racing with a close second behind Mount Nebo in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on April 18 and he produced another good effort at a big price to finish third in the Weetwood Handicap.

Mr Favoulous’ Weetwood Handicap victory delivered veteran jockey Jeff Lloyd another feature race victory and his first win at Stakes level since he took out the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) earlier this year
