Mouro was having his first run since winning the Group 3 $150,000 Snowhite Maintenance Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield  at the end of last year’s Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Today’s win was the five year old stallion’s sixth since arriving from Europe and winning trainer Tony McEvoy will now prepare him for the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 12.

Stable representative at Flemington today Jason Robinson said that Mouro is proving a very consistent horse and will benefit greatly from the run.

“It’s a great result. Tony will be very happy with that,” Robinson said.

“The horse has been fantastic at home, he was nice and fresh for today. He has never really let us down in any runs. 1400m first up suited beautifully and a great ride from Craig.

“We will head up to Sydney tomorrow night and wake up their Monday morning and we will see how we go and try and get him there.”

“I think he presented fantastically today and there is more to come, he will take a lot out of that run.”

“He came over from Europe, it took a little while to get his coat right.”

Winning rider Craig Williams settled Mouro ($5) back in the field and brought him with a well-timed run to claim the leader Strawberry Boy ($3.60 favourite) at the 300m and then held off the roughies Mourinho ($101) and Fat Al ($26).
