He took bad luck out of the equation today,” winning trainer Bedggood told Racing.com speaking of his horse’s barrier one draw and front-running ride.

“He’s begun really well his last two starts and when he jumped a half in front of them today – there was no instruction to lead – but Browny (jockey Ethan Brown) just used his initiative and went with the horse and the rest is history.”

Ridden by Ethan Brown, the six-year-old gelding completed a hat-trick of wins over 1000m at Moonee Valley this preparation capped off by an all-the-way success in the Group 1 $750,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) on Saturday.

“He was presented here in terrific order. He drew gate one and he flew the lids and just had an easy time of it,” Brown told the media.

“(He was) fit, well. I was the beneficiary of a well-prepared horse for a great bunch of owners.”

Despite being overlooked in the betting markets, Mornington Glory’s consistent form and impressive track record made him a competitive contender. Starting from the rails, he led the field from the start and held off a late challenge from returning Blue Diamond winning filly Hayasugi to secure the win.

The Moir Stakes trifecta was completed by the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Lady Of Camelot, the Golden Slipper winning filly also kicking off her spring.

This Group 1 victory sets Mornington Glory up as a strong contender for the upcoming Group 1 $2 million Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m).

He is into $8 through race sponsor Ladbrokes to emulate Imperatriz (2023) by completing the Moir Stakes – Manikato Stakes Group 1 double at Moonee Valley.
