After a horror 18 months out with niggling injuries, unbeaten mare One Last Dance will resume at Moonee Valley tomorrow in the $80,000 Harvey Sprint (1000m).

In 2011, the Peter Moody-trained four-year-old won the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude and was considered among the favourites to take on Sepoy in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

But a minor shoulder injury cut short her two-year-old campaign and further niggling problems prevented her returning last spring or in the autumn this year.

Now back to full fitness, the Moody team are excited about her prospects and believe only a lack of experience will stop her extending her unbeaten streak to four.

“Ability and fitness wise, she can definitely win tomorrow,” Moody Racing Manager Jeff O’Connor said.

“She’s got a lot of ability, we were pretty confident she would’ve been competitive and probably run a place in the Blue Diamond.

“But she comes up against the older horses now and can’t afford to make any mistakes over 1000 metres.”

O’Connor said it was a relief to finally get the daughter of Encosta De Lago racing again after a frustrating period where she suffered multiple setbacks.

“It’s just been niggling injuries every time, she has never looked like being retired or anything like that,” he said.

“But every time she’s been right to go something has come up and we’ve had to start again.”

While team Moody stopped short of declaring One Last Dance a certainty tomorrow, punters have shown confidence in the lightly-raced favourite.

After opening at $4.60 yesterday, the talented sprinter is now being offered at around $3.60 in most markets.

With regular Moody rider Luke Nolen taking a break after his Victorian premiership winning season, Dwayne Dunn has been booked to ride One Last Dance from the inside barrier.
