Peter Moody needs six more wins if he is to crack the coveted ton by the season’s end on July 31.
The Victorian trainer has seven meetings left to achieve his remaining wins after claiming a double at Sandown Racecourse yesterday.
Moody, who won his first metropolitan title last season with just 83 winners, is hoping he can join a club that features only two other Victorian trainers.
Lee Freedman was the first to make 115 winners in the 2005-2006 season, while David Hayes claimed 103 the season after.
Chris Waller has already reached the century in Sydney this season after a win at last Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens meeting.
Moody will have his chance to creep closer to the milestone when he saddles up six runners at Flemington this Saturday.
The trainer’s foreman, Tom Brideoake, believes that Moody will easily reach the sought-after 100 winners.
“A couple more Wednesdays (winners) and a couple of doubles or trebles will make it easy,” Brideoake said.
“We’ve got some lovely horses for this time of year and all the right horses are in.”
However, Brideoake said that reaching milestones was not the stable’s highest priority.
“He (Moody) never speaks of that sort of stuff,” Brideoake said.
“We just keep doing our job and keep churning out the winners.
“I’m sure when we get there – if we get there – it will be a good result and everyone will be patting themselves on the back because the stable works so hard.”
Also adding to the excitement is Black Caviar’s imminent return to her Caulfield stables.
The four-year-old is due back in approximately two weeks’ time.
The champion mare is currently in pre-training on Peter Clarke’s water walker at Murchison.
“She’s the centre of attention every morning,” Brideoake said.
Brideoake said that Black Caviar has to lose the extra weight she put on during her spell before she can return back home.
“It depends on how much weight she has to strip up there,” Brideoake said.
“She came back (from the paddock) an extra 15kg heavier.”
Moody, who is currently holidaying in Thailand, will gauge the super mare’s progress when he returns next week.
“When he (Moody) gets back from overseas he’ll probably go and have a look at her.”
