Peter Moody is confident Black Caviar will make it 13 wins in a row at the BTC Cup

Despite the hype that is surrounding the next showdown between Black Caviar and Hay List in Brisbane’s BTC Cup this Saturday, Peter Moody is confident that his super mare has the title already in the bag.

The trainer feels that he has seen all the evidence demonstrated in their last three meetings, in which Black Caviar always came up trumps.

Plus there’s the small matter of Black Caviar being unbeaten over her 12 career race starts.

“The wheels would have to fall off for him to beat her”, Moody said.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Hay List, but if you go on facts, figures and form he can’t beat her unless something goes wrong.”

Moody is happy with Black Caviar’s pre-race preparations, which have included early morning track work and outings to Eagle Farm’s swimming pool.

“Everything is good with the mare,” Moody said.

“She worked well on Saturday (morning) at Doomben and she gets a weight pull on him.”

While Moody is convinced that Black Caviar will be the money earner this Saturday, Hay List’s camp believes otherwise.

Regular jockey, Glyn Schofield, has to be optimistic from the sidelines after failing to recover from a broken collarbone in time for the big race.

“I think he’ll really take it to the mare this week,” Schofield said.

Hay List’s trainer, John McNair, is equally hopeful that it’s fourth time lucky for his talented gelding.

“He’s ready to go,” McNair said.

“It wasn’t what he won the trial by, it was the acceleration he showed doing it.”

McNair believes it’s just a matter of time before Hay List proves too good for Black Caviar.

“If we don’t get her in the first one, we will get her in the next one (Doomben 10,000),” McNair said.

“I know my horse can run a strong 1350m or 1400m.

“We are still guessing whether Black Caviar can extend her brilliance beyond 1200m, it is still up in the air with her.”

McNair is completely at ease with Hay List’s pre-race form going into Saturday’s duel.

“This is the first time that I am really 100 per cent happy with him going in to a race against Black Caviar,” McNair said.

“She has had everything go her way, she hasn’t had any hiccups. It has been the dream preparation for her.

“We are planning to throw a spanner in the works.”
