Medcaut has been backed into 2016 Carrington Stakes odds of $2.80 and assistant trainer Darren Beadman is happy with the condition of the in-form galloper ahead of the Listed event at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Medcaut started his summer campaign with a very poor performance in the Schweppes Farewells Jimmy Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 21, but he returned to winning form in the Inglis Classic Sale Night Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on December 5 before he beat a strong field to take out the December Handicap (1600m) at the same venue on Boxing Day.
Beadman admits that Medcaut follows a weird pattern into the Carrington Stakes – having not had a race start in a month – but he believes that the Commands gelding will be suited by the Royal Randwick track as well as the small field in the Listed race.
“He is coming back to 1400, but he has nearly a month between runs,” Beadman said.
“His first run last week the track might have been too rain affected for him.
“He really loves the Randwick track himself and he has had four starts for two wins.
“He has done very, very well – at home he has been jumping out of his skin.
“With the small field he has drawn well and he seems to map pretty well.”
You’ll Never has not been seen at the races since he finished sixth in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 1, but he is currently on the second line of Carrington Stakes betting markets at a quote of $4.20.
Promising three-year-old Voilier has performed well in two race starts since he returned to the races and he is on the third line of betting at a quote of $4.80, while Zin Zan Eddie has remained steady at a quote of $7 since the final field was released earlier in the week.
One of the most interesting horses in the 2016 Carrington Stakes field is Red Excitement and he is the only other horse that is available at single figure Carrington Stakes odds.
Red Excitement took out the Chester Manifold Stakes 12 months ago and looked as though he would develop into a genuine contender at the highest level of racing, but he has failed to fire in recent times.
The 2016 Carrington Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes is rounded out by Hidden Warrior ($11) and Agent ($14).
