Champion hoop Damien Oliver is confident that Miss Rose De Lago is capable of justifying her 2017 CF Orr Stakes betting trend and win the feature race at Caulfield first-up.
Miss Rose De Lago was rated little chance of success in Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes betting markets when she opened at a $31 quote on Wednesday, but the multiple stakes winner has continued to attract reasonable interest on her way to current odds of $21.
Oliver partnered the Encosta De Lago mare to an impressive first-up win in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield first-up in spring and told AAP that he is confident the mare is not without a chance of repeating the effort in the Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes.
“She hasn’t won a Group One race yet but she has run really well over the course and distance,” Oliver said.
“She won the Group Two Liston (P B Lawrence) over the same course and distance in the spring and I think Danny has sort of earmarked this race as the best opportunity to try to win a Group One.
“It’s not going to be easy for her though. There’s a lot of depth in the race.
“She trialled really well at Flemington in her first trial and then her second one was on a wet track at Geelong and probably wasn’t as good as we hoped.
“But I’m forgiving her for that bad ground there.”
Miss Rose De Lago began her racing career under the guidance of Simon Miller in the nation’s west, but has undoubtedly found her best form since transferring to Danny O’Brien’s Flemington stables at the conclusion of her 2014 campaign.
A noted Autumn Carnival performer, Miss Rose De Lago resumed in 2016 for third in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m), before running fourth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) and winning the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) most notably.
Drawn ideally into the Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes field in barrier 5, Miss Rose De Lago is weighted particularly well as a mare with only 57kgs in tow.
Miss Rose De Lago remains firm at her current quote with Ladbrokes Australia, while the Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart ($3.80) continues to firm on the top line of 2017 CF Orr Stakes betting markets.
