2013 Crown Oaks winner Kirramosa has been back in work for six weeks and trainer John Sargent has revealed that she will be set for the Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Kirramosa was the star staying filly of the 2013 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, winning both the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Crown Oaks (2400m), but she missed the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after being found with a bone chip on her front fetlock.
Sargent said that Kirramosa was given almost three months in the spelling paddock and told Sky Racing HQ that he will slowly bring along the Alamosa filly before starting her spring campaign that he hopes will include runs in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18 and the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 4.
“She has done very well,” Sargent said.
“We didn’t want to take her to Queensland so we left her out for about three or four months in the end.
“She has been back in for about six weeks now and she is not far away from having a run along.
“I will get her up to a trial and probably give her ten days in the paddock and just work her up to the spring.
“She will aimed for the Cups races and she looks a lot stronger than last season.”
Sargent was delighted with the physical improvement that Kirramosa made in her time away from his Royal Randwick stable and he believes that the bone chip that kept her out of the autumn may be a long term positive for the rising four-year-old.
“She would have put on 50 or 60 kilos from that break,” Sargent said.
“I think it happened to So You Think, he missed the autumn and the winter, and won the Cox Plate and co. so it might have been a blessing in disguise.
“She has developed into a nice mare now and let’s hope it will all be right for her for Melbourne.”
Kirramosa has had just eight race starts since beating Puccini and Miss Mossman on debut at Matamata on March 13 last year, but has scored four wins and already accumulated over $800,000 in prizemoney for connections.
Kirramosa is currently on the second line of 2014 Caulfield Cup betting markets at a quote of $15, while she is available at 2014 Melbourne Cup odds of $26.
