Seemingly without warning Mark Thompson has left his post as the Queensland foreman of Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm operation.

Thompson has only been in the job for a matter of months after Toby Edmonds was dismissed of his duties earlier in the year.

Mark is the brother of John Thompson, the head trainer for Patinack Farm.

“Mark resigned because he didn’t like the change of lifestyle,” he said.

“He used to live in Darling Harbour in Sydney and missed the lifestyle there.

“I had to talk him into going to Queensland when he was first appointed.”

John himself will now be based in Brisbane for the months during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and is reportedly in no rush to fill the void left by his brother.

It will mean an extra workload for him however, starting this Saturday at the Gold Coast on one of the clubs biggest days of the year.

He has decided  that Tagus will not start in the Listed Prime Ministers Cup instead relying on Metallurgical after his last start win at Eagle Farm.

In one of the feature events, the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas, he will saddle up two great chances Run For Levi as well as the in-form Wonderful Lass.

“I’m not bringing Tagus up and he’ll probably run next in the Scone Cup on Friday week,” he said.

“I think Wonderful Lass is our best hope in the Guineas.

“She’s fit and is ready to win.”

She has run three times in Brisbane this preparation for two placings but faltered last start in a non listed race to finish sixth.

Run For Levi has had a very different lead up after contesting the Group 1 Australian Guineas last start where he never looked a chance.

In fact the three-year-old crossed the line second last and dozens of lengths behind the winner Shamrocker.

“He’s first-up and normally takes a couple of runs to find his best form,” Thompson said.

“He’s headed to the Queensland Guineas and I’d like to see him on a firmer track.

“I’m not sure why but he didn’t come up for his Australian Guineas prep.”
