Barry Mitchell’s undefeated colt Wicked Intent is the headline nomination taken for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast next month.
The Wicked Style colt is one of 127 official nominees for this summer’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic, the restricted juvenile’s feature to run on January 10, 2015 on the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Race Day.
On debut Mitchell’s Eagle Farm-based youngster caught the eye at the Gold Coast track when a two and a half-length winner over 900m.
He was up in distance then at Doomben on November 29 when Chris Munce guided him to an even more impressive four and a half-length victory over Mishani Honcho in the $65,200 Breakfast Creek Hotel 2YO Handicap (1050m).
Now the $132,400 earner holds a nomination for the $100,000 Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) back at Doomben Racecourse this weekend, the set weights clash serving as a nice Magic Millions lead-up for the Classic-bound youngsters.
Also nominated for both the Phelan Ready Stakes and the Magic Millions 2YO Classic are the Brad Herne-trained Beneteau gelding It’s Vegas Baby, Apollo Hope for Sunshine Coast horseman Stuart Kendrick, King Drabadore, Most Important, the Danny Boughoure-trained Red Magic and Wicked Investment.
Wicked Investment has twice run over 1050m at Doomben finishing third on both occasions, the most recent being behind The Wildman in the $64,000 Tiland Constructions P/L Handicap on November 1.
Wicked Intent is battling for top spot in the futures Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting markets at bookmakers around the country with Gai Waterhouse’s smart filly Carriages.
One of 13 in the Magic Millions mix for Waterhouse next month, Hinchinbrook filly Carriages stormed up the all-in markets for the $2 million Classic with her impressive two length victory over Prompt Return in the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat on November 22 with Craig Williams in the saddle.
Third in that race, Moral Outrage, is also nominated for the Gold Coast edition with the hopes of atonement after finishing four lengths off the winning filly.
Another last start winning filly in the Magic Millions picture this summer is the Liam Birchely-trained Pepperano.
The grey daughter of Court Command had her first run at Doomben on November 22 with Munce guiding her to an all-too-easy two and a half-length victory over Patronizing in the $65,000 Capture The Feeling Handicap (1110m).
Birchley’s other notable Magic Millions-bound young gun is then Real Saga filly Saga Of The Storm who ran third to Mishani Honcho in the $65,000 Iveco Handicap (1200m) at Doomben over the weekend when beaten under half a length.
Other notable Magic Millions 2YO Classic nominees include Gerald Ryan’s unraced Backstab, Zizou colt Zoutenant who ran second on debut at Rosehill on December 6, last start Doomben winning Falvelon filly Madotti, dual winning Sequalo filly Frequendly, the Andrew Noblet-trained Maribyrnong Plate runner-up Old Trieste and Debutant Stakes second placed Group 3 performer Miss Idyllic.
Notable omissions from the Magic Millions 2YO Classic nominations meanwhile include Mark Riley’s Debutant Stakes winner Of The Brave, Denpurr who ran second behind 2015 Golden Slipper hopeful Aegean Sea at Kensington on debut last month, recent Morphettville winner Invincible Jules, the Gary Portelli-trained Sebring Sun and Magic Alibi.
