Winning jockey James McDonald settled Madam Rouge in the second half of the field before easing to the outside in the straight to secure a clear run to the line.

The James Cummings trained Isaurian sweep to the lead half way down the straight but Madam Rouge finished strongly to claim a head advantage on the line to record her third win from her last four starts.

“James certainly did a great job today and Kathy O’Hara last start. We like to share the rides around a bit and expects good rides and that was certainly what we got today,” Waller said.

“She drew barrier one, which you might think is great when the barriers come out in a race but you could see with her today she was three back the fence with a lot of horses in front of her.”

“James didn’t take risks. He went out and the obviously got clear running and set sail for home and got there in time.”

Isaurian ($5) was also trying to make it back to back wins today but found one too strong in Madam Rouge ($4.80) while $17 chance Morrissy ran on from the back to claim third prize.

The Bjorn Baker trained Champagne Cuddles was sent out as the $4.60 favourite but unfortunately went amiss mid-race and was retired from the event.

Jockey Nash Rawiller dismounted Champagne Cuddles in the straight and walked the mare back to the enclosure.
