Talented filly Lumosty has been backed into 2014 Thousand Guineas odds of $4.20 and is the new favourite to take out the Group 1 event at Caulfield on Saturday.

Lumosty started her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a narrow second to Afleet Esprit in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on September 13 and she was entered for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) after she produced a dominant performance in a maiden at Sale on October 1.
The Fastnet Rock filly opened at a quote of $5.50 when the 2014 Thousand Guineas field was released earlier in the week, but has been the clear market mover in the past 24 hours and is now a clear favourite to record a maiden win at Group 1 level.
Go Indy Go opened as favourite in Thousand Guineas betting markets at odds of $4.20, but she has been the big drifter and is now out to a quote of $5 to return to winning form.
The Bernardini filly started her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with an extremely poor performance in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13, but produced an improved performance to finish third in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 28.
Trainer Leon Macdonald was happy to see Go Indy Go return to her best in the Thousand Guineas Prelude and he is confident that the talented filly will be suited by the step-up to 1600 metres this weekend.
“She seems good, she galloped yesterday morning, looked nice and bright and pulled up well from it,” Macdonald said yesterday.
“I think that the step-up to 1600 meters helps her as much as anything and she is out of a Zabeel mare and she is probably looking to stay now.
“We are hopeful.”
Afleet Esprit is also available at Thousand Guineas odds of $5 and has remained steady at that quote since betting opened earlier in the week.
Afleet Esprit has recorded four wins from five starts this preparation and she stamped herself as a genuine Thousand Guineas contender by taking out the Cap D’Antibes Stakes and the Thousand Guineas Prelude.
Bring Me The Maid failed to fire in the Thousand Guineas Prelude, but has been kept safe in Thousand Guineas betting markets and is currently available at a quote of $6 to record a maiden win at Group 1 level.
Trainer Peter Moody has opted to apply blinkers to Bring Me The Maid for the Thousand Guineas and jockey Luke Nolen is confident that the gear change will help the Sebring filly in the Group 1 event this weekend.
“If there’s a bit of moisture in the track come Saturday, I think with the blinkers added she can give it a real shake,” Nolen told TVN yesterday.
Chris Waller-trained Amicus ($9) is the only other filly in the Thousand Guineas field that is available at single figure odds, while the likes of Sabatini ($17 out to $21), Pickin’Time ($13 out to $15), High Above ($17 out to $26) and Go Jennio ($61 out to $81) have all been drifters in early betting with Ladbrokes Australia.
