Chris Waller has I’m Imposing and Telepathic in the 2015 Villiers Stakes field and the leading Sydney trainer believes that both horses will be competitive in the Group 2 event at Royal Randwick tomorrow, as long as they receive luck in running.
I’m Imposing has not recorded a race win since he took out the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) over a year ago and he produced a flat effort in the same race at Rosehill Gardens on November 28, but Waller feels that the Danehill Dancer gelding is capable of returning to the form that saw him finish a close second behind Rudy in the same race last year.
“He will need a bit of luck from out there,” Waller said.
“He did run second and a very unlucky second last year – the winner weighed in light, but he still won the race.
“He can bounce back, but he is going to need a skilful ride to win.
“Josh Parr is riding good.”
Telepathic started her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a gallant third in the City Tattersalls Club Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on October 17 and she flew home late to finish second in the Blacktown Workers Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on October 31.
She produced an impressive performance to take out the Skyla’s Screamer Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 14 and she justified her very short quote when she was far too good for her rivals in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) at the same venue on November 28.
Waller believes that Telepathic would have been the horse to beat in the 2015 Villiers Stakes if she had drawn an inside gate, but he remains confident that she is still a chance to record the biggest win of her racing career to date.
“They say over the Randwick mile that barrier draws are irrelevant and I just think that you need a bit of luck,” Waller said.
“You need a lot of luck to win from barrier 18, but Jason Collett knows the horse very well, she is in terrific form this preparation and coming back to the mile won’t be a problem.
“She is a good chance.”
Telepathic is currently available at 2015 Villiers Stakes odds of $7 and she is on the second line of betting behind Happy Clapper ($4.60), while I’m Imposing has been solid at $34 since the final field was released on Wednesday.
