Looks Like The Cat will step-up to 1350 metres for the first time in his racing career in the 2014 BRC Sires Produce Stakes and trainer Tony Gollan believes that the talented juvenile will appreciate the rise in trip.

Looks Like The Cat made his racing debut with a comfortable win in the XXXX Gold Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on February 8 and returned to the races with a strong second behind Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 10.

Gollan told Racing Ahead that Looks Like The Cat has taken plenty of benefit out of his first-up run and is confident that the Husson colt will run out a strong 1350 metres in the BRC Sires Produce Stakes at Doomben this Saturday.

“He has trained on really well this horse,” Gollan said.

“He is a horse that only had a jump out into his first-up run and he has improved nicely and is certainly a better horse than he was going into that first-up run.

“It will definitely suit him and he needs a good barrier, but the rise in distance and being second-up is a big plus.”

Looks Like The Cat is set to face a strong field in the 2014 BRC Sires Produce Stakes and will have the opportunity to turn-the-tables on Brazen Beau, who was included in the nominations for the Group 3 event.

Brazen Beau won on debut in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury on February 8, but was sent to the spelling paddock after he finished a disappointing fifth in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 8.

Trainer Chris Waller sent Brazen Beau to Queensland for a 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival campaign and the decision immediately paid dividends when the colt scored a impressive win in the Champagne Classic.

Another galloper taking strong form into the BRC Sires Produce Stakes is Mick Price-trained Pressing, who has scored two wins from two career starts.

Pressing made his racing debut with a narrow win in the Mindy Green Plate (1200m) at Caulfield on April 12 and he stamped himself as a genuine Group level contender with a dominant three and a half lengths victory in the Listed Sky High Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on May 3.

Other horses that have been included in the 2014 BRC Sires Produce Stakes nominations include Matthew Dunn-trained Freezethemillions, Darley colt Mohave and Gerald Ryan-trained Time For War.
