Just as soon as Gold Coast filly Anna Lizzie was being spruiked as a Queensland Oaks contender, her hopes were dashed.

The Alan Bailey-trained three-year-old was to race this weekend to further press her claims for Saturday week’s fillies’ feature but on Tuesday morning was found to have an elevated temperature.

On Sunday Bailey told News Limited he hoped his emerging stayer could measure up to the likes of The Roses quinella Dear Demi and Gondokoro.

“She’s always had ability and she’s come back better this time in. She’s a lot stronger and bigger now and I’m hoping she can measure up to those better horses,” Bailey said.

Unfortunately the daughter of Mearas will have to wait for another day to show her ability at stakes level.

Anna Lizzie signalled her potential for an Oaks berth last month when winning by 5 1/2 lengths in a Class 1 at the Gold Coast and backed that up on May 10 when saluting by 3 1/2 lengths in an Ipswich Class 3.

The exciting talent was the top Queensland-trained hope for the Oaks, occupying the third line of betting at $13.

With Anna Lizzie ruled out, Robert Heathcote’s filly Magic In Motion is rated as the best local chance, currently being offered at $21.

The daughter of Magic Albert handled a steep rise in grade on Saturday to finish fourth in The Roses after consecutive victories at Ipswich.

Group 1 winner Dear Demi is a $3.20 favourite for the Oaks, with Gondokoro hot on her tail at $3.80 following her fast-finishing second on Saturday.
