Troy Corstens has revealed that he and father Leon Corstens will train in partnership from the start of the 2014/2015 racing season next Friday.

Tory Corstens grew up working in his father’s stable and after a brief stint overseas he returned to Australia to work as the racing manager for the Corstens stable.
At the end of 2010 Corstens left Team Corstens to launch Malua Racing at Flemington with veteran trainer John Sadler and had immediate success; with the operation quickly expanding to open another stable at Ballarat.
Corstens took on a more hands on role as trainer when Sadler was sidelined with depression at the start of the year and became the sole trainer for Malua Racing when Sadler left to train for Aquanita Racing.
Corstens announced the training partnership in a statement on Twitter and said that the new arrangement will allow all the horses under the care of both himself and his father to take advantage of a wide range of different training environments.
“As of the 1st of August I will be heading into a training partnership with my father,” Corstens said in a statement.
“One of the reasons that we are going in together is to be able to utilse the differing facilities that we will be able to offer.
“I will remain at Flemington and my father has a fantastic private property out at Romsey in a country environment.
“These two facilities combined with our beach property at Balnarring will give us every training environment that a horse could possible need. “
Leon Corstens worked as the stable foreman for legendary trainer Bart Cummings for 25 years, where he trained numerous winners of the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup, but in 1994 he opted to establish his own training operation.
It did not take long for Corstens to find success and he quickly developed into one of the leading trainers in Australia; with the veteran horseman responsible for the stellar racing careers of triple Group 1 winner Helenus and outstanding sprinter Starspangledbanner.
Corstens won the 2012 edition of the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) with Commanding Jewel and the talented filly is set to be the new partnerships leading contender during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, with the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 25 on the agenda.
