Last Wish’s Adelaide Cup Odds Lenghten

Last Wish has drifted out to 2016 Adelaide Cup odds of $13, but trainer Tony McEvoy remains confident that the progressive galloper is ready to run well in the Group 2 event at Morphettville this afternoon.

Last Wish was backed into a quote of $10 in Adelaide Cup betting markets following the scratching of Signoff on Saturday, but support has cooled for the Guillotine gelding in the past 24 hours and he has been a big drifter this morning.

The five-year-old started his autumn racing campaign with a poor effort behind Allergic in the Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on January 30, but he has improved significantly since being sent to Melbourne.

Last Wish scored an upset victory in the Ladbrokes.Com.Au Handicap (2400m) at Sandown on February 10 and he proved that victory was no fluke when he scored another narrow victory in the EJ Whitten Foundation Handicap (2500m) at Moonee Valley on February 26.

He is set to step-up to 3200 metres for the first time in the 2016 Adelaide Cup, but McEvoy is confident that the five-year-old will run out the trip strongly and is hopeful he has the class required to record the biggest win of his racing career to date.

“There will be no fitter horse than Last Wish in the race and I think he’ll run the two miles (3200m),” McEvoy said.

“He showed he wants to attack the line with his win over 2500 at the Valley last time, but it’s whether he’s classy enough.”

Real Love remains a dominant favourite in Adelaide Cup betting markets and she is now at a quote of $2.20 to deliver jockey Brad Rawiller and trainer Darren Weir their first win in the race after they were narrowly denied on Taiyoo last year.

Swadecelic and Up Cups are also set to take winning form into the 2016 Adelaide Cup and they are the only other horses that are available at single figures Adelaide Cup odds.

There has been a sprinkling of support in the Adelaide Cup betting market with Ladbrokes for Like A Carousel ($21 into $17), Lucques ($17 into $14) and Celtic Prince ($51 into $34), while Kushadasi ($26 out to $31), Go Dreaming ($41 out to $51), Wales ($26 out to $31), Gallatin ($81 out to $126) and Distillation ($71 out to $126) have all been on the drift.
