Jimando won his first race start today, taking out the Listed Debutante Stakes at Caulfield

Two-year-old colt Jimando sent tongues wagging today after he won the Listed Debutante Stakes at Caulfield by more than three lengths.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Jimando was having just his first race start in today’s $100,000 race and jockey Nash Rawiller believes it is a sign of what’s to come for the young colt.

“He’s got the make-up of an awesome older horse to be quite honest,” Rawiller said after the race.

“He doesn’t feel like he should be doing what he just did.

“They don’t come out and win an early two-year-old race like that and not be competitive in better races in the autumn.”

Jimando’s trainer Tony McEvoy is now looking towards a start in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington on November 5.

“I never had any intentions of running him at two but funny things happen with horses,” McEvoy said.

He kept telling me to take him to the races and he really impressed me today.

“That’s the best he’s ever gone, so it’s nice that he saves it for race day.

“We’ll probably take him to the Maribyrnong and then we’ll assess the situation.”

The Commands colt was picked up from the 2010 Magic Millions Sale for just $50,000 and has already earned prize money of $60,000 after today’s win.
