It’s Somewhat made it three wins on the trot with a gallant victory in the 2017 Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
There was a great deal of money for It’s Somewhat in the lead-up to the Hollindale Stakes and jockey Tye Angland did exactly what punters expected when he took the Doncaster Mile winner to the lead in the early stages of the race.
Kathy O’Hara wasted no time getting right on the shoulder of It’s Somewhat on Single Gaze and the pair were quickly joined by a host of challengers at the top of the straight.
They fought out the likes of Rudy and it was Single Gaze that got her nose in front, but it was Maurus flying down the outside that looked the biggest danger to the pair.
It’s Somewhat remained on the rail, which had been the best part of the track all afternoon, and that may have proven to be the difference as he fought back in the final stages of the race to record another brave win.
The Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane in a fortnight is the major 2017 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival target for It’s Somewhat and he will likely face a very similar field to the one that he beat this afternoon.
It’s Somewhat started his 2017 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign with a win in the Group 3 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Royal Randwick on March 11 and he led from start to finish to win the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on the opening day of The Championships.
Single Gaze lost no admirers with her performance and she is another horse that will head towards the Doomben Cup, while Maurus produced the perfect trial for said race with his fast-finishing performance.
