Doncaster Mile winner It’s Somewhat has been set to peak for Saturday’s Group 1 $1m Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot in Perth.

Trainer James Cummings has timed It’s Somewhat’s Spring and Summer campaign so the English import will be at his top for the 1800m weight for age contest at his fourth run in this preparation.
“He’s really been targeted at this race for the entire spring campaign and we feel that he’s building up to a peak,” Cummings said.
“He achieved a good result with his third in the Emirates Stakes at Flemington and the space between runs coming into this suits him.”
It will be a month between It’s Somewhat’s latest Spring outing when third behind Tosen Stardom and Happy Clapper in the Group 1 $2m Emirates Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on the last day of the four day Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Cummings can’t see the drop back from 2000m to 1800m as a problem as he has won over that distance when he took out the Group 2 $358,000 Attwood Marshall A.D. Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast during the 2017 Queensland Winter Carnival.
“He ran well at 10 furlongs last start and he’s back to nine furlongs which is a distance he won over at weight-for-age last winter,” Cummings said.
Assistant trainer Paul Reid travelled to Perth with It’s Somewhat and has reported that the seven year old has come through a 1200m Belmont barrier trial win in fine style and will strip in top order for the Kingston Town Classic.
“It was going to be a month between runs, so we took him to the trials last week to give him the feeling of race-day pressure rather than just having a gallop at home,” Reid said.
“He won the trial and is going super – we believe he’ll be very competitive.”
It’s Somewhat has drawn awkwardly at barrier eleven in the Kingston Town Classic field that has been reduced to fourteen runners following the early scratching of Silverstream and Brenton Avdulla will need a little bit of early luck to find a nice spot in the first half of the field.
It’s Somewhat is on the second line of betting at $5.50 for the Kingston Town Classic with Ladbrokes.com.au behind the $3 favourite Black Heart Bart who has drawn the rails and will be ridden again by regular rider Brad Rawiller.
On the third line of betting at $6 is the lightly weighted local filly Perfect Jewel who has drawn just worse than midfield at nine with Perth’s leading jockey William Pike in the saddle.
