Hot Snitzel is having his first run back since a successful Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign that saw him win the Group 1 $500,000 UBET BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 9.

Snowden then ran the Snitzel gelding in the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 and after leading battled on well in the straight to finish fifth to Srikandi.

Hot Snitzel has had two barrier trials in preparation for his Spring Carnival return and ran second over 900m at Rosehill on September 1 and backed up with a third over 802m at Warwick Farm.

Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul, expects Hot Snitzel to race well although his best distances are longer than that the 1100m of The Shorts.

“This is short of his best trip,” Snowden told Racing And Sports.

“He is no really noted as an 1100m horse but he is going well the horse. I expect him to run well in a very strong race.”

Blake Shinn partnered Hot Snitzel in both his Brisbane starts and has stuck with the seven year old who has drawn barrier eight in the nine horse field on Saturday.

Snowden also has That’s A Good Idea in The Shorts but said if the track is rain affected the Flying Spur six year old won’t be taking his place in the field.

“The forecast is rain to come, it’s supposed to come, he won’t be running,” Snowden said

“But if it is a good track he will run well. He has had two good trials, he is going great the horse but he is just hopeless on wet ground.”

Glyn Schofield has been booked to ride That’s A Good Idea who will jump from gate seven if he goes around.

That’s A Good Idea also went to Queensland for the Winter Carnival and performed well with a second to Ball Of Muscle in the  Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 30.

Ball Of Muscle has had one run back from a spell for a third to Shiraz in Group 3 $125,000 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick and will also contest The Shorts and is one of three runners trainer Joe Pride will saddle up.

Pride’s Group 1 sprinting star Terravista is set to resume in The Shorts and has performed well in two recent Warwick Farm barrier trials with a third to Ball Of Muscle over 807m on August 28 followed by a win over That’s A Good Idea and Hot Snitzel over 802m on September 11.

Pride’s third runner is Rock Sturdy who is also resuming from a short break following a Queensland Winter campaign that saw him run second to Charlie Boy in the Group 3 $125,000 Darley BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on May 9 before running seventh to Boban in the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 23.

The Shorts market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $2.60 Terravista, $4.80 Shiraz, $7 Ball Of Muscle, $9 Rebel Dane, That’s A Good Idea, $13 Hot Snitzel, Delectation, $17 Atmospherical, $51 Rock Sturdy.
