Highest Blue Diamond Stakes Third Declarations In Half A Decade

The highest number of third declarations in five years has been taken for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse on February 25.

A total of 64 two-year-olds have accepted for the third round of declarations, which is one horse more than last year’s 63.

As expected, last start Blue Diamond Preview winner Malasun was included in the declarations.

Malasun won the first stage of the Blue Diamond Series by almost one and a half lengths in front of Members Joy and Sabie at Caulfield on Australia Day.

The Red Ransom filly was purchased from the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale in February 2011 for $80,000 and has since won $60,000 in prize money.

Malasun is one of five juveniles from trainer Mick Price to feature in the third round of declarations.

Another of Price’s fillies, Samaready, has also won her only previous race start.

The More Than Ready two-year-old won the $70,000 Spotless Plate for two-year-olds at Flemington in December last year.

Samaready, who was purchased for $150,000 from the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, has won more than $42,000 after just one start.

Price’s other three two-year-olds in the Blue Diamond Stakes declarations, Al Aneed, Tuscan Haze and Zumoorooda, are yet to race.

Winner of the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings, The Travelling Man, also remains in the mix for a Blue Diamond Stakes run.

The Travelling Man finished fourth in his first start in the Listed Inglis Debutante Stakes before winning the Preview by more than a length.

Jimando, Andree Roo Hoo and No Looking Back also feature in the declarations as expected.
