Hay List has been unexpectedly scratched from the 2011 Doomben 10,000 field tomorrow.
Trainer John McNair has reported that Hay List has experienced soreness in his off hind fetlock and in turn has had to be scratched from tomorrow’s race.
McNair has yet to comment about his decision to withdraw Hay List from the race, but told Racing Queensland that he is currently treating the horse with anti-inflammatory drugs in the hope of achieving a quick recovery for the gelding.
The Doomben 10,000 was set to be a one horse race after champion mare Black Caviar was also scratched from the field due to the fact that she did not recover well from her last run in the BTC Cup.
The absence of Black Caviar was anticipated to provide Hay List with the opportunity to take out his third Group 1 race.
Hay List has been plagued with foot problems throughout his entire career, with this latest set-back coming at the worst possible time for the talented five-year-old.
The question now remains whether Hay List will continue on to the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap on June 11 or whether he will head straight out to the spelling paddock.
The scratching of favourite Hay List has now opened up the field considerably, with Peter Snowden’s Beaded now the short priced favourite.
