The 2015 Carlyon Stakes field has been released and talented mare Gregers is set to contest the Listed event that will be held at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Gregers was a consistent performer in both Adelaide and Melbourne during her autumn campaign, but has not been unable to record a race win since she took out the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in August of last year.
The Commands mare started her autumn preparation with a very close second behind Platelet in a heat of the Jeep 55 Second Challenge (955m) at Moonee Valley on March 27 and she was narrowly denied again by Politeness in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18.
Gregers returned to Group 1 level in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 2 and she was only beaten by Miracles Of Life in the shadows of the post before she finished her campaign with a credible sixth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at the same venue on May 16.
Another talented sprinter that is set to return to racing in the Carlyon Stakes this weekend is Tony McEvoy-trained Éclair Choice.
Éclair Choice has been a consistent performer since he made his racing debut at Moonee Valley in December of 2013, but he went to another level with a consistent string of performances during the 2015 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.
The California Dane gelding started his campaign with a close second behind Casper’s Ghost in the Grow Up Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville on March 9 and he was narrowly denied by Setinum in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) on March 21 before he returned to winning form in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 18.
Éclair Choice was sent to the spelling paddock after he finished fifth behind Nicoscene in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 9, but he has since impressed onlookers with his dominant six lengths victory over Alpine Eagle in a barrier trial at the same venue on August 7.
The only horse that will be taking winning form into the Carlyon Stakes is veteran gelding Our Nkwazi, who will run in the race for the second year in a row following his 11th place finish behind Iconic last year.
Our Nkwazi scored a narrow victory over Hard Romp and Il Cavallo in the Melbourne Signage Concepts Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on August 1 and will contest the Carlyon Stakes over the same track and distance this weekend.
Le Bonsir, Mr Make Believe, Il Cavallo, Fast Cash, Tansy, Just Magical, Beach Front, Sweet Emily, Klishina and She’s Ellie have also been included in the 2015 Carlyon Stakes field.
